We Fight With You
Smile-A-Mile fights alongside those we serve through our year-round programs for patients, survivors and their families. During the month of September, we “Go Gold” in honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by raising awareness and funds through community events as well as providing special programming for the families we serve. Our motto is “We Fight With You” and during September, we emphasize this message so families in Alabama know they never fight this disease alone.

How We Fight
Hospital Outreach Program (HOP): HOP takes weekly activities to children and families being treated at Children’s of Alabama.
Programs at Smile-A-Mile (SAM) Place: Our programs foster emotional and psychological healing for children and their families at all stages of the childhood cancer journey.
Camp Sessions: We provide seven camp sessions each summer tailored to age and stage of treatment.
Regional Programs: We are committed to serving families by providing programming in their own communities throughout Alabama.
Scholarships: We assist families in sending their patients/survivors to college or trade school.
Bereavement Programming: We are dedicated to continuing support for bereaved families through programming, remembrance ceremonies and keepsakes which serve as tangible reminders of their children.
Funding a Fellow: Smile-A-Mile is a longtime partner with Children’s of Alabama and provides annual funding for a Pediatric Hematology/Oncology Fellow in training with the UAB Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. This funding is offered exclusively for the training of Post-Graduate Fellows in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology.
