My SAM Story

My Smile-A-Mile volunteer experience began 2002. It was back in the days when volunteers worked in the kitchen preparing all the meals for camp. I spent the entire week washing and cutting fruit before meals and washing pots and pans after meals. But the time interacting with the kids coming through the meal line and in the evenings was magical and I was hooked for life. Over the years I have worked in the kitchen, helped with arts and crafts, helped organize evening events and served as a miscellaneous adult willing to do whatever it takes to make camp a memorable experience for the kids. And all the while I was receiving so much more from the kids than I was giving. They are fun, curious, talented, inspiring and just kids that want to do kid things. I served on the board of directors for 5 years in various roles. Now I am thrilled to have joined the Smile-A-Mile staff. I’m not sure of what all of my duties will be but whatever I’m asked to do I will do with love in my heart for the kids and their families. This is truly my dream job!!
