How We Provide Hope

Smile-A-Mile’s mission is to provide hope, healing of the spirit and love for the whole family during the childhood cancer journey. Through year-round meaningful and educational programming, Smile-A-Mile helps those in Alabama who are affected by childhood cancer thrive during treatment and the years beyond.

Smile-A-Mile meets families wherever they are on their cancer journey
and walks alongside them through our year-round programs.

Hospital Outreach

Weekly activities that we provide to children and families at Children’s of Alabama.

Smile-A-Mile Place 

Our home for family events, holiday parties, day camps and a monthly bereavement support group.

Camps & Retreats 

Three summer camp sessions and two family retreats each year at Children’s Harbor on Lake Martin. 

Regional Programs 

One-day events reaching families throughout Alabama in their own communities.

Scholarship Program 

Financial assistance for pediatric cancer patients to attend a college, university or trade school.

Smile-A-Mile Place

Smile-A-Mile Place, located in Birmingham’s Parkside District and three blocks from Children’s of Alabama, is the heart and home of Smile-A-Mile’s year-round programming. SAM Place brings families together outside of the hospital setting to share in fellowship, support and life-enriching activities.
