My SAM Story

My Smile-A-Mile story started three years ago when I got to go to sibling camp for the first time. When I was 9 I got adopted by my aunt and uncle. Their son was recently diagnosed with cancer and was only 22 months old. The first time at camp I had no idea what to expect. I was scared and anxious but also very excited. I got there and immediately felt like I never wanted to leave. From the moment you arrive you feel like you are with family. The activities they plan for usย are so fun. The time getting to hang out with the other campers is great. We swim and get to ride the banana boat. We get the best food and the dance is amazing. There are so many special things about camp like making buttons and waiting to hear “I Want It That Way” by the Backstreet Boys. Those little moments are so special. The bond with the counselors is great and as soon as I get too old to come as a camper I plan to become a counselor. I canโ€™t explain my favorite part because I love it all. Smile-A-Mile is my second family and my home away from home.
