My SAM Story

I was diagnosed with PNET Ewing Sarcoma in August 2012. After receiving 35 weeks of chemo, 27 radiation treatments, 6 surgeries, & being at Children’s for 10 months, I attended a Smile-A-Mile camp session the Summer of 2013. Although I battled with several side effects, I’ve always looked forward to & attended camp every summer; it became known as ‘my happy place.’ I enjoyed meeting other kids who had fought cancer & the staff. I made some great memories with them.

I am attending college to become a Physical Therapist Asstistant because of an experience that I had at camp; it made me realized that I enjoyed helping others. I plan to major in Athletic Training due to my love of sports, and I plan to become a counselor for SAM.

I want people to be aware of childhood cancer and be more informed about side effects. I want people to show their support to SAM, so they can continue bringing joy to kids & their families. Having cancer or a disability does not define who a person is.
