The Briceno Family

Living away from a tight knit family is hard enough, throw in a childhood cancer diagnosis and you have a recipe for isolation and loneliness. When the Briceno’s son was diagnosed with pediatric cancer, the family found an extended family in Smile-A-Mile. “The Smile-A-Mile staff are like aunts and uncles for my children.” according to Janet Polo-Briceno. The Briceno family has participated in almost every aspect of the SAM program. From summer camping to holiday parties, the family is not alone in this journey. In fact, when Janet took her oath to become a United States citizen, the SAM family was in the audience cheering her on!
